ORIGINAL BEANS CHOCOLATE
Original Beans was founded in 2008 by Phillipp Kauffmann, an entrepreneur-conservationalist with a family tree of explorers and environmentalists. Based in Amsterdam, Original Beans is replanting and protecting rainforests around the world in their mission to plant one tree per bar of chocolate sold. Original Beans produce superior quality, organic chocolate from the rarest, fine flavour cacaos. They have collected prestigious awards with their chocolate used in some of the world's best restaurants. From Peru to Ecuador, Original beans are making a difference with their fine chocolate and protecting our precious rainforests for future generations. Their traceability is second to none with each chocolate bar even carrying a tracking number so you can see which group of trees it originated. Original Beans create their chocolate directly from the cocoa bean, known as bean to bar chocolate or cacaofevier.

More about Original Beans' mission
Original Beans cacao is sourced from regions defined by the scientists as biodiversity hotspots and wilderness areas. The most richly biodiverse places on Earth, but also are the most gravely threatened.
Original Beans is all about protecting the biodiversity of cacao bean varieties. The regions where Original Beans direct trade offer unique cacao beans, with fine flavours reflective of a distinct terroir. They have even rediscovered and replanted a long forgotten bean, the Piura Porcelana. Original Beans collaborate with international agronomy institutes, such as the CATIE and the CIRAD to classify, monitor and protect the beans in their chocolate bars.
Direct relationships with smallholder farmers and co-ops is the key to Original Beans trrading ethos. Full traceability is guaranteed of all cacaos and at a price that is 6.5 times higher than the fair trade premium.
Original Beans’ aim is to offer a fully natural chocolate from start to finish without any additives or lecithin. To sweeten, raw cane sugar is used. The chocolate is gluten-free, and the dark chocolates are vegan.
The outer chocolate wrapper is 100% natural as well. The packaging of the chocolate bars, carton and foil, is for 100% from FSC-certified woods. You can use it in your garden compost.
Original Beans reinvests in the restoration of rainforests by planting one tree per product unit created.
