The new 2008 vintages for the Palmira, Gran Couva and Ampamakia dark chocolate bars are now available to buy on our website.

Ampamakia, vintage 2008, 64% cocoa, single estate bar

The 2008 vintage Ampamakia chocolate bar from Valrhona is again full of exotic fruit, tart flavours with that distinct sherbet edge. A fine blend of beans from the Millot plantation in Madagascar provide the plum, mango and citrus fruits. A very fruity and refreshing, single origin dark chocolate with an additional sharp edge on the finish. We noticed a more rounded flavour in this 2008 vintage compared to the 2007.

Gran Couva, vintage 2008, 64% cocoa, single estate dark chocolate bar

The Valrhona Gran Couva chocolate bar is created from fine flavour Trinitario cocoa beans from a single years harvest at the San Juan Estate (Gran Couva plantation), found on the Caribbean island of Trinidad. This 2008 vintage chocolate provides predominant flavours of roasted almonds and hazelnuts with slight notes of spice. Our own tastings detected a slightly more caramelised flavour compared with the 2007 vintage. Very little tart fruits, unlike the Ampamakia, and less sweet than the Palmira.

Palmira, vintage 2008, 64% cocoa, single estate dark chocolate bar

Valrhona have created this 2008 vintage chocolate bar from the fine flavoured Criollo cocoa beans from the Palmira plantation in west Venezuela. As expected from Valrhona, this chocolate bar is exuding fruit notes but with an additional very distinct honey flavour and so quite a sweet dark chocolate. A exceptional chocolate with great length in flavour. No noticeable differences from the 2007 vintage other than a smoother mouth feel.
