A glass of red wine or a piece of chocolate may be a treat for your tastebuds, but they can also be a real pain in the neck (and head).
Some foods contain ingredients that trigger headaches in many eaters. These include: caffeine; alcohol; tyramine (found in red wine, beer, aged cheese, nuts and chocolate); and tannins (found in foods such as apple juice, blackberries, coffee, tea, chocolate and red wine).
If you suspect a particular food is causing your headaches, the American Dietetic Association suggests you don't eat it for two weeks, then try it again. If the headaches come and go with the elimination and reintroduction, you may want to consult a health professional.
