Valrhona Ampamakia 2006 dark chocolate bar
August 10, 2005 12:30

Full of exotic fruity, tart flavours with that distinct sherbet edge. A fine blend of beans from the Millot plantation in Madagascar provide the plum, mango and citrus fruits. A very fruity and refreshing dark chocolate with an additional sharp edge on the finish.

VALRHONA AMPAMAKIA DARK CHOCOLATE BAR INGREDIENTS
• Cocoa beans
• Sugar
• Cocoa butter
• Vanilla
• Emulsifier: Soya Lecithin

Valrhona's own description of this chocolate bar:
On the Island of Madagascar, the river Sambirano snakes its way through a magical landscape where delicate perfumes blend with the shimmering colours of the vanilla and ylang-ylang fields. For the people of this plantation where cocoa has been grown for more than 200 years, Ampamakia rings out like a chant of aromas and colour. Only limited quantities of each vintage are available. The yellow fruit flavours combined with the citrus notes offer a unique tasting experience.

Wow, burst of citrus, sherbet, green grapes, lime and I could go on. The Ampamakia is the suprise of the Valrhona range of chocolate bars. The texture is amazingly smooth. I can't wait to try the new vintage Ampamakia bar because they do vary from year to year and I love to try the latest one. I never manage to save a bar to compare though - the gap in between is much too long.

Valrhona are amazing to have created such a unique flavour from cocoa beans - how can chocolate taste so different and why are people still buying the flat, falsely flavoured rubbish. The Ampamakia is a must chocolate.

Valrhona Ampamakia is a must for your chocolate order. I realise the 2005 is now unavailable by Valrhona but I have had each years vintage and they are always incredible.

I bought all three of the new Valrhona vintages as i think they are still the best bars in the world. The Ampamakia is probably my favourite but each have their own brilliant flavours and character. In short I would sum up the Ampamakia as being the most citrus, the palmira definitely the most honey flavoured (with a touch of spice) and the gran couva the nuttiest and least tart. I highly recommend all three valrhona vintage bars to newcomers.
