Amedei Porcelana dark chocolate bar
November 13, 2005

The Amedei Porcelana, 70% dark, specialist chocolate bar is created exclusively from the refined, nutty and caramel flavoured Porcelana bean, a genetically pure strain of the Criollo bean. This bean is extremely rare and Amedei produce only a limited quantity of chocolate each year from it. The Porcelana bars are individually numbered by hand. This very special cocoa bean produces the most expensive chocolate in the world.

AMEDEI PORCELANA DARK CHOCOLATE BAR INGREDIENTS
• Cocoa mass
• Cane sugar
• Cocoa butter
• Vanilla

Amedei's own description of the Porcelana dark chocolate bar:
This is the first chocolate in the world made from cocoa beans from a single variety, Porcelana. It shows a special nutty, caramel flavour specific to Porcelana beans.

A beautifully balanced chocolate with notes of red fruits and as Amedei suggests, nuts. I find the porcelana possibly the most balanced of all Amedei's dark chocolate with a little bit of everything.

The Porcelana from Amedei is a real treat indeed. A chocolate not to be rushed. I find it suprisingly non bitter for a 70% dark chocolate and the few friends I have allowed a little have agreed. I agree with Catrina in that its a beautifully balanced chocolate with a bit of everything. I think Amedei chocolate is fantastic and worth every penny.

The porcelana is a must for anybody wanting to experience fine chocolate. All Amedei chocolates are amazing but this is the ultimate, champagne of chocolate.

The Porcelana is the Champagne of chocolate, no doubt. Yes the equisite packaging does help also make it a great gift but Amedei have managed to create such a fine balance of flavours. Isn't it odd that we have never questioned the origin of the cocoa before - its like buying a bottle of wine without the label? I recommend this but perhaps more for a real treat, as Champagne or gift as it is quite expensive.

The Porcelana certainly seems to always be in the news. Im sure a big part of that is because it is made from the rarest cocoa bean in the world and that each bar is numbered etc. This hype put me off trying it to be honest but I bought a bar for my husband last week (thank you chocolate trading company for the excellent service) and it was certainly a fantastic chocolate. I don't think the nut is as noticeable as Amedei describe but we both thought it contained many different notes from toffeee to plum and all extremely well balanced so that one did not supress the other. My favourites from Amedei are the Chuao and the Toscano Black 70% bars - I have yet to try the new Toscano Blond and red bars. I will make another order very soon and recommend to my friends.

The Porcelana bar is a bit pricey for my budget but it is an amazing flavoured chocolate. Its on my list for birthdays! I also very much like the toscano black 70% chocolate bar by Amedei and the 66% bar which is slightly sweeter but with quite a difference in flavour too. The Chuao bar again has an amazing flavour and I would say is equally as good as the porcelana.

The Porcelana is a very good chocolate by Amedei but their are many others equally as good I think. The Amedei Chuao, Michel Cluizel Mangaro and many more from these fine chocolate makers. The Porcelana bar I think just has received the most press.

Amedei Porcelana chocolate is the best. I have eaten a few porcelana chocolate but Amedei is greatest.

You really can't knock the Amedei Porcelana chocolate but I do rate some of the others just as much. The Amedei Chuao for instance and the Michel Cluizel Mangaro bars are quite amazing themselves and haven't a handwritten number on the back which means absolutely nothing to me.

I agree with Vivian, the Amedei Porcelana is a fantastic chocolate but I too consider other fine chocolate bars to be just as good from Valrhona, Michel Cluizel and Bonnat, for example. I first read about the porcelana in the independent and they recommended this website. The feature about Amedei was a little over the top I have to say but I did like the sound of being able to buy real chocolate for a change. I wonder if the hype about Amedei will last as long as Valrhona and Michel Cluizel have? we shall see - quality always prevails.

Amedei are completely out of all Porcelana I hear so perhaps its a vctim of its own success - I much prefer the chuao and toscano black 70% as they hold more flavour , IMO of course!
