The Venezuela, single origin chocolate bar from Pralus holds two distinct and opposing flavours. A thin, acidulous top edge above prominent smoky, earthy lower notes.

Surprisingly robust for a chocolate created exclusively from fine flavour, Trinitario cocoa from Venezuela. A contrasting chocolate experience and perhaps the most complex of the Pralus single origin bars.

Pralus Chocolate

Pralus, situated in Roanne, France, are one of the few chocolate houses creating chocolate direct from the cocoa bean. Owner, François Pralus, produces chocolate of exceptional quality, achieving accolades from The Grand Prix d’Excellence International du Chocolat and the Grand Prix du Festival International du Chocolat.

Yes it is sweet and it does taste of grilled butter (not sure I could taste the liquorice). Lots of flavour and liveliness but perhaps a bit too sweet for me to order again!

3Worth a try

Not as fruity as some of the other venezuela chocolate bars so quite a surprise to me although I was expecting it to be different which was why I added it to my order. The smokey aspect was a little too smokey for me on tasting and so I found I prefer the cleaner, fresher flavours more often found in chocolate made from venezuelan cocoa.

I have to say though, aside from my obvious personal taste, its amazing how you can get so many contrasting flavours from a bar of dark chocolate - perhaps this was the aim of Pralus and if so they achieved a very interesting chocolate for others to experience. Hence my rating.
